Carbery Milk Products Limited

Located in Ballineen, County Cork, Ireland, Carbery Milk Products, a major international food ingredients, flavors, and cheese manufacturer, was established in 1965 to service the dairy sector. In 1976, Carbery began its first ethanol production for the potable alcohol market. In the mid-1980’s, KATZEN began its consultancy with Carbery and by 1992, KATZEN had become the exclusive licensing agent for Carbery’s proprietary cheese whey to ethanol fermentation process world-wide.

Through the 1990’s, KATZEN consulted with Carbery, in conjunction with the late high-grade ethanol expert John Murtagh, on process modifications to improve the quality and capacity of their system. From 1998 through 2002, Carbery engaged KATZEN in a series of capital improvement projects that significantly improved the ethanol quality, system capacity, steam demand, and on-stream time. These projects entailed the replacement and/or reconfiguration of most of the distillation equipment at the site. We have continued to consult with Carbery on energy reduction projects for the facility.

KATZEN provided to Carbery process design packages for multiple expansion projects, detail engineering and construction liaison, operator training and start-up service.
