Bioetanol Paysandú

Located in Paysandú, Uruguay, the BIOETANOL PAYSANDÚ ethanol plant started up in March 2015, and achieved full production capacity less than 2 months after starting the first fermentation batch. This plant is owned and operated by ALUR, Alcoholes del Uruguay, and has a daily ethanol capacity of 211,200 liters. The design utilizes KATZEN’s proprietary Bio-Focused FLEXible technology to enable the use of multiple feedstocks, including corn, grain sorghum (milo), wheat and barley with minimal chemical usage and no antibiotics to produce fuel grade ethanol. This technology also produces a superior high protein animal feed (DDGS) co-product, thus ensuring BIOETANOL PAYSANDÚ an advantage in the emerging markets in Uruguay.

For this project, KATZEN provided our detailed process design package as well as extensive liaison and support services for operations training, commissioning, and start-up operations.
