Process Design

KATZEN supplies integrated process design services to encompass any requirement ranging from economic analysis of proposed new-site development to a comprehensive project design package to existing plant debottlenecking and expansions. We use sound engineering fundamentals combined with our extensive start-up and operations experience to create detailed process models, specifications, and operating methods. These elements are united to provide a process design package customized to meet our clients' goals.

We develop a rigorous steady-state simulation for each design condition using state-of-the-art process simulation software. This process simulation model forms the basis for Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) which detail material and energy balances for the process and utility streams.

We then develop Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), detailed drawings for fabricated equipment, and equipment and instrument specifications to meet the peak performance requirements. KATZEN specifications are provided in a format that facilitates either direct purchasing or submission with vendor bid packages.

We utilize our extensive operational experience to transform the design drawings and specifications into documents that enhance project construction and facility operations. Examples are DCS screen representations to facilitate control system development, clean-in-place control logic, and operating principles manuals. Please refer to the construction liaison web page for additional details.
