Biography

John Cengel joined KATZEN in 2005. Since that time, John has been responsible for implementing all phases of project development from initiation of contracts, project definition, and design development, to detail piping and equipment design, vendor liaison, construction, project management, and plant start-up. He is experienced with the design and operation of a wide variety of process equipment and instrumentation, with a field of concentration in the distillation and dehydration phases of motor fuel, potable, and industrial grades of ethanol production. John has participated in and led the design, management, commissioning, operator training, and start-up of many process facilities throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Additionally, John is also experienced with process simulation and troubleshooting, distillation tower performance analysis, and project feasibility studies.

Prior to his employment at KATZEN, John was employed at Cognis Corporation for 12yrs as a chemical process engineer and production supervisor, providing technical support for various oleochemical manufacturing processes. In these capacities, he was responsible for the design, specification, and start-up of new and modified processes and equipment, capital project management, distributed control system (DCS) design and programming, developing operating procedures, operator training, and production management. In addition, John worked several years for Bailey Controls Company, developing process control systems for processes in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemicals, and petroleum industries. There he provided a single point of technical responsibility to major clients for the control system definition, design, testing, start-up, training, and documentation.
